From Seth Bramson:
Friends:
It is with a great deal of pleasure that I advise you of the publication of the second volume of the above named book, by Dr. Joseph Schwieterman, with a foreward by John R. Stilgoe.
"Impressive" is an understatement! This beautiful tome, hard cover, 334 pages, with a full color dust jacket, is a major historical piece and focuses on cities and towns west of the Mississippi which have lost their railroads.
California is well represented, with the following cities being included: Beverly Hills; Coronado; Folsom; Glenwood; Laws (Bishop Station); Monterey; Newport Beach; Placerville; San Rafael; Santa Monica; Sausalito, and Vacaville.
Nevada locations covered include Boulder City, Carson City and Virginia City.
Needless to say, Dr. Schwieterman's prose is masterful. The photographs are striking and evocative, with innumerable great and early views of the towns, the steam engines that served them and the depots with modern views showing the scenes "today." Maps are included, along with an appendix and a fine list of references.
Published by Truman State University Press, there are discounts available (one time offer!) on any quantity and a complimentary paperback copy given with any order of ten or more. For info, contact the TSU Press, (800) 916-6802 or tsup_@_truman.edu.
I guarantee you that you will be both enthralled and delighted with this marvelous book.
