(rshsdepot) Dickinson, TX

The recent update regarding the Historic Railroad Center in Dickinson is
totally erroneous. Here is the true story.

The Dickinson Historical Society (DHS) has been working to assist the
city in raising the 5% matching funds required by the Texas Department
of Transportation's grant of $1.08 million dollars for the restoration
costs. To date DHS has raised over $150,000 to help the city in meeting
the matching funds requirement.

The Dickinson depot and the League City depot were saved from demolition
several years ago, and have been moved to a new site on FM517 in
Dickinson.. The TXDOT plans call for the new facilities to be known has
the Historic Railroad Center. The Dickinson depot will become a museum
and the League City depot will become a meeting center for
organizations and community activities. The restored facility will also
house the the offices of the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce
and the Dickinson Historical Society.

We are happy to report that TXDOT will release the restoration plans for
bidding purposes in the early part of November and restoration should
begin in January of 2005.

While the TXDOT funding only covers the basic building restoration, we
still need to raise additional funds for museum displays, security
systems, signage and interior finishing. The city of Dickinson which
owns the buildings and the property will be responsible for landscape,
parking facilities and exterior lighting.

DHS is now seeking contributions for the additional requirements. If
you would like to assist, please send your tax deductible gift to;
Dickinson Historical Society, 2716 FM 517 East, Dickinson, TX 77539.
