Delmar station:

From the Delmar city page: "If there are any regrets, it’s that dark day in 1959 when the town tore down its landmark train station. Some say the town was angry with the railroad for not keeping a way of life going, and when the company offered to sell it for just $1 to the community so it could be given a new function, the offer turned into a chance to “settle the score.”

The razing of the building broke hearts and made enemies to this day. It was torn down and replaced by — nothing.

“The saddest thing they did was not to keep that railroad station,” said Delmar native Helen Spear. “That was the biggest mistake the town ever made. It was a terrible, terrible shame. It could have been used for a museum, or a library — they didn’t even have a library at that time.”"

sad story,
Paul
