If you are using AOL you have to make sure the photos aren't zipped which AOL
does by default when there is more than one attached file. (and without your
knowledge, I believe)
I have heard that sending single files might work, but I can't keep up with
what AOL software does what these days. There might be a setting somewhere to
disable attachment zipping.
Try sending one photo at a time.
