Ok, we are driving east on Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn crossing over the Connecting RR (ex Conrail, ex NH, sort of LIRR/MTA, what is it CP or N&W?), to the north it is coming down off the elevated portion....and there looks like an old section rising off of it...as if it were an elevated RR express track (like they are taking down now near Broadway Junction, near Atlantic Avenue where the Fulton El had such a high-rise express track and part of the structure remained...
But there was no El off of the Connecting railroad...
Was this something to do with sharing tracks with the Canarsie BMT line (if there was such a connection between the building of the NY Connecting RR (1910? 1912?) and the rebuilding of the Canarsie line into the subway after the First World War?
Or was it for freight? Or part of some long lost scheme, like the freight depot I read about planned for land filled land in Jamaica Bay? (another favorite is the mid-20's plan to build a better rail connection between Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn and Long Island City..I guess the Depression killed these ideas..
So what exactly was this elevated stub coming off the Connecting RR heading up in the air in and heading sort of SSE...was it for the incinerator plant or the dump or some power plant?
If you go look, I don't recommend coming east on Pitkin too far to the west, oh my god, traffic just doesn't move, it is the worst route to take! But I once lived near there so it was interesting...the huge movie theater is for sale so I guess it is doomed now, Loews something or other, I don't remember, nice chandelier and gilded domed ceiling I remember...the old wooden building part of Lundys in Sheepshead Bay is gone now I see, too much is going in too short a time for me! argh!
