Event displays new exhibits and works
A ribbon cutting ceremony officially re-opened the Railroad Depot Museum on
Saturday.
Connie Nielsen and Carl Mellor, representing the Historic Preservation
Commission held the ends of the purple ribbon, while Richard Van Wagoner,
who has been instrumental in restoring the depot, cut the ribbon.
Heather Miller, of the Chamber of Commerce gave a short introduction speech
before the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The re-opening was jointly sponsored by the Historic Preservation Commission
and the Lehi Area Chamber of Commerce.
The newly re-opened Railroad Depot Museum boasts several new exhibits.
The old ticket area has been re-created, and the former reception area now
houses several different railroad and Utah History exhibits.
The largest exhibit is a working model railroad with local building featured
as part of the layout.
Other exhibits show various aspects of railroad building and artifacts found
in the building and on the grounds.
There are also several historic maps and placards explaining the importance
of the railroad to the early history of Lehi and North Utah County.
Upstairs, the Lehi Area Chamber of Commerce maintains an office and the
Historic Preservation Commission will be using the other office.
The Chamber distributed free Scenic Utah Calendars and there were several
Lehi History books for sale at the event.
The museum will be open every Saturday or by special appointment.
For more information call Richard Van Wagoner at 768-0741.
