(rshsdepot) Beecher, IL

The depot restoration project in Beecher, IL is nearly completed. (Originally located in Beecher, IL, was sold some years back to the owner of Thompson's winery and moved to Monee, but returned to very near to its original site in Beecher in 2000.) It is nearing completion and will be open to
the public one day (Saturday, December 6, 2003) for a special US Postal
special pictorial stamp cancellation event featuring a picture of the depot
on the stamp. The post office personnel will be doing the cancellation of
first class mail that day AT the Beecher Depot!

Just this past Saturday, the telegraph system was installed (thanks to a
connection provided by RSHS board member Norb Shacklette!) and the dispatcher's phone was installed then too. And, on December 6th, the depot will have on display many railroad relics (that will be eventually placed permanently in the depot's bay window area when it is completely finished and open on a more regular basis.) The town's historical society will also be located inside the depot, so it will have lots of interest to a variety of people.
