Amo to get state grant for train station project
Amo -- Organizers of an effort to save the old Interurban station here will receive a boost from the Indiana Department of Commerce.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Davis is expected to present a $473,000 check today to town officials for the restoration of the Amo station.
The rest of the money to restore the old building will come from donations and a state Community Focus matching grant.
The plan is to turn the building into a library, transportation museum and community center.
The building bustled nearly a century ago with passengers on the Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Eastern Traction Co. line.
The town bought it in 2001 for $24,500.
