While still a critical situation, there seems to be a stay of execution
for at least several more weeks.
At least CSX has removed the crane for the time being.

Subject: (totalcsx) Update info on Aberdeen, Md. station
I have more specific contact information and factual clarification on the
efforts to save the Aberdeen, Md., B&O station.
First the main contact for the effort locally there is:
Maryanna Skowronski, Administrator
Historical Society of Harford Co.
143 N. Main St.
Bel Air, MD 21014
(410) 838-7691
e-mail: www.horsegal_@_iximd.com or www.harfordhistory.net
Second, the main needs of the effort right now are pledges of financial and
moral support. Any group or individual that can write a letter of support
for saving the station should do so, as well as pledging any financial
support possible. You do not need to send money at this time, just the
pledge to do so is enough for right now.
It appears that we have until Sept. 30 to get this effort off the ground.
The order of condemnation, which cannot be reversed for liability reasons,
gives CSX until that time to take action (meaning demolition or improving
the condition of the structure). The crane was removed over a week ago
because CSX was paying for it by the day. The order was passed by the
Aberdeen City Council out of concern that someone would be injured around
the station and might sue the city for not taking action. CSX would like to
sell the 11 acre site the station sits on for development. Interestingly,
one of the most vocal opponents to saving the station on the council happens
to be a Realtor.
Thanks again to all for your interest in helping to save this station.
Paul
