I don't think this is true.  The station was always stone, not wood.  It did 
have an extended open shelter to the east that has been removed.  Kirkwood 
was named in honor of the Missouri Pacific's first chief engineer when the 
railroad reached this area, and as far as I know the area or station was 
never named Collins Station.  Could this perhaps be the early construction 
and name for the Frisco station which is now gone, but was south of this 
location?  Knowing the accuracy of newspapers, epecially when faced with the 
fact that two railroads came through the same area, this wouldn't be too far 
fetched!  Any evidence to the contrary would be welcome.
