Subject: [OHPAstations] Geauga Lake depot on the old Erie line torn down!

The Erie Geauga Lake depot has been torn down, there is nothing left
showing above the (deep) snow, not even the foundation. I talked to
a local preservationist who was able to salvage the doors, windows,
interior wood trim and train master's desk. He also took
measurements which he will mail to me. He is a volunteer fire
martial, and found the structure to be very solid, except for the big
hole in the roof and one rafter. They tore it down anyhow, even
though he offered to have volunteers remove the depot in the spring.
It was an unusual design, stucco, with an unusual treatment above the
bay window. The depot has been in disrepair for many years, why the
big hurry today? We're left scratching our heads on this one.
There was an older depot that burned down, I think, post 1909. Does
anyone have any info on when the new one was built, or any other
info? I live about a mile away or less.
