Re: (rshsdepot) Speedway to Sunshine

Dear Friends:
Because--and only because--I was asked and invited to bring you up to
date on the Revised and Enlarged Edition of Speedway to Sunshine: The
Story of the Florida East Coast Railway, do I do so at this time.

The original December, 1984 edition (12 chapters, 320 pp, 3000 copies)
was sold out in August, '85, this without and before an FEC Historical
Society (infor through fecrailway_@_yahoogroups.com then "subscribe" on
both the subject line and in the body) or an internet existed.

Approximately four weeks ago the Revised and Enlarged Edition (16
chapters, 352 pp, 4000 copies) was delivered to the Boston Mills Press
warehouse, near Toronto. In less than two weeks, all 4000 were sold
out; I had to buy five copies from Amazon.com! My agreement with Boston
Mills called for me to get books in lieu of royalties; the books went
out so fast (John Denison, at BMP, told me they have had books sell out
in six MONTHS, but have never seen anything like this) I wound up
getting ONE copy from them.

They are publishing 4000 more as part of this same printing--it is NOT a
second edition. I told them that I thought 2000 would be fine but they
have assured me that, even with my books, they will sell these out,
though not in two weeks!

At any rate: thank you to all who had or have an interest in our unique
little railroad. I am proud and honored to have been somehow involved
with, interested in, or part of the Florida East Coast Railway for now
close to 54 years. The book is the Official History of the FEC, deemed
so by the Company, and should you be interested in purchasing a copy you
can email bostonmillspress.com, amazon.com, barnes&noble.com or this
writer. PLS do not send me a check yet: I donot want anybody to send
me payment (if you choose to favor me with a purchase) until books are
in hand. In any event, Myrna and I thank you and all of the folks
nationwide who somehow, for some reason, have become interested in
America's most exciting railroad. I am both honored and humbled by the
wonderful accolades that the book has received and I will be even more
honored should you purchase one and allow me to sign it for you at a
show or when you come to Florida.

Warmest good wishes for a happy and safe new year.
Fondly,
Myrna and Seth
