Tourism Group Visits Kaw City
KAW CITY -- The Kaw Lake Association hosted the Association for Cooperativ=
e
Tourism (ACT) for their November meeting in Kaw City=2E=20

The group toured the Kanza Museum and the Kaw City Museum followed by lunc=
h
at Kaw City's Old Town Cafe and discussion of tourism happenings at the Ka=
w
City Community Building=2E=20

They viewed a video on the history of the Kaw Tribe and recent displays at=

the Kaw Museum=2E The museum has several of its attractions on permanent
display, including bronze busts of past and present Kaw tribal members=2E
Among the displays are photographs that document the history and activitie=
s
of the Kaw Indian people=2E=20

The Kaw City Museum, located in the northeast comer of Kaw City, is in the=

old Santa Fe Railroad depot from the city's original 1902 townsite=2E=20

Joining the old building is a new addition, the Kenneth W=2E Brill Buildin=
g,
in honor of a hometown philanthropist=2E Contents of the museum reflect
everything from the ordinary to the unusual about life in old Kaw City=2E=20=


Displays include equipment of a beauty parlor, circa 1930, an old dentist'=
s
office, and an old-fashioned bedroom featuring a sturdy, homemade bed fram=
e
in which no nails were used in its construction=2E=20

It also features a collection of early photographic prints and equipment
belonging to George Catlin and many Native American artifacts=2E=20

ACT is an association dedicated to the promotion of tourism the four-state=

area of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas=2E The group meets the
second Wednesday of each month in an ACT community to tour local
attractions and network=2E=20
