La Grange Train Depot Gets New Lease On Life=20

By Donna Janda
Contributing Writer

The La Grange Train Depot will have a new life in the coming months=20
thanks to the generosity of the non-profit group, Friends of the=20
Depot (FOD), and grant funds obtained by the City of La Grange=2E

Recently, the La Grange City Council began the process to purchase=20
the depot from the FOD=2E The $50,000 purchase will be made using a=20
portion of the grant funds=2E=20

Once the purchase is complete, the depot will then get a much-needed
facelift and take on the new role of museum=2E
Since the city will own the structure, the FOD will lease the=20
building from the city for $250 annually and keep the museum=20
operational=2E

According to FOD Treasurer Gayle Lincke, keeping the depot in its=20
original location and restoring it to a historically significant=20
time period is a dream come true for the members of the organization=2E
(The La Grange depot is the last MKT train depot south of Denton still
sitting in its original location=2E)

"Obtaining the grant funds is a good thing for the depot and the=20
city," Lincke said=2E "Anytime grant monies instead of tax dollars=20
can be used to make improvements, it's a good thing=2E"
Councilwoman Monette Taylor was in agreement with the FOD and the=20
council's actions=2E According to Taylor, using the grant funds to=20
purchase the depot is a "win-win situation=2E"

"Buying the depot and restoring it will be a benefit for the city,=20
since it will bring in more tourists," Taylor said=2E
But that's not all=2E The depot, once it is restored, will serve=20
its visitors by being an educational and recreational stop=2E
