Subject: ICRR depot in Marion, IL restoration being studied

Today, the Marion Daily Republican, the newspaper for Marion, IL had 
an article and a nice picture of the old Illinois Central depot on 
Market Street.  There is a plan afoot to restore the building back 
to its original condition externally as it was before the 
devastating fire.

I am glad to see a group attempting to refurbish this building.  It 
was designed for Marion, KY but ended up being built in Marion, IL 
instead.  The building burned to the ground June 13, 1977, while 
under lease to American Rail Heritage, Ltd. DBA Crab Orchard & 
Egyptian Railroad for use as a depot for a then tourist operation.  
Today, the CO&E's offices are inside the partially rebuilt building, 
which was done in 1984.

It will be nice to see one of Marion, IL two remaining (of three)
railroad stations restored to its former glory.
