$300G grant to upgrade terminal in Liberty Park

08/06/02 - The Jersey Journal

The state is providing a $300,000 grant to pay for a series of visitor
enhancements at the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal at
Liberty State Park in Jersey City, state Assembly Speaker Albio Sires
announced recently.

Gov. James E. McGreevey and Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox awarded
the grant to the New Jersey Historic Trust. The nonprofit group will use the
money for a series of improvements, including creation of a visitor
orientation and tourist information center and development of exhibits and
historical material.

"This is an investment that should produce significant dividends for Hudson
County and the state's tourism industry," Sires, who is also mayor of West
New York, said recently. "The improvements generated through this grant will
further establish Liberty State Park and the Hudson waterfront as one of the
state's pre-eminent recreation and tourism destinations."

The $300,000 grant is funded by the federal Transportation Equity Act for
the 21st Century. -Timothy Torres
