The grant, awarded to Gov=2E James E=2E McGreevey and state Department=20
of Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox by the federal government,=20

"When a town in the district secures funds from a competitive grant=20
(like the federal Transportation Enhancement program), it is a great
accomplishment for everyone involved," said Smith, D-4, of Washington
Township=2E "I know the residents in Glassboro will be thrilled to hear=20=

the news=2E The train station is one of the only historic buildings left=20=

in town and the plans to revive the site will benefit all in the=20
community=2E"=20

Officials said the train station was built in the 1860s and was used=20
by locals to travel from Millville to Camden=2E The site includes a=20
loading dock and passenger area and has been vacant for the past 15=20
years=2E=20

"It's great to see Gloucester County, Glassboro and Rowan University=20
offices working together to ensure that the town's revitalization=20
efforts keep moving forward," said Glassboro Mayor Leo McCabe=2E "Our
community is honored to receive the grant and is thankful to the=20
state Department of Transportation for believing in our vision to=20
revive our past and share it with further generations=2E"=20

Fox thanked Smith for helping towns like Glassboro "to receive their=20
fair share of federal funds=2E"=20

Recently, Fox and state and local officials have plenty to be thankful=20
for, as the federal government also announced last week the awarding=20
of more than $1=2E3 million to several projects in South Jersey=2E=20

Officials said Woodstown in Salem County will receive a $170,000=20
grant for a beautification project of the Woodstown Downtown and=20
Municipal parking area and Paulsboro will receive $150,000 for a=20
downtown streetscape beautification project=2E=20

Penns Grove in Salem and Bridgeton in Cumberland counties will each=20
receive $500,000 for the Riverwalk project in Penns Grove and the=20
Bridgeton Railroad and Depot Transportation Linkage project=2E=20

The grants are made available through the federal Transportation=20
Equality Act for the 21st Century, and have been used to fund the
restoration of historic lighthouses and transportation museums,=20
officials said=2E=20
