Re: (rshsdepot) Binghamton-Syracuse but not Binghamton-New York

This all stems from the DestiNY USA project to create the largest mall in
the US out of the Carosel ("merry-go-round") mall in Syracuse......

I have been thinking this one over for a while...

It did say because the Binghamton to NYC route would take five years to
do, that they decided to go this way, to Syracuse, didn't it?

This to me makes very little sense. Not that I don't think it is cool
that they are restoring a service defunct for 44 years. But that is just
the point...Binghamton to New York (or Hoboken) makes sense...some
people would like that..(would they just have to fix Port Jervis to
Binghamton section anyway?), there would maybe be a ridership between
the big city...But Syracuse to Binghamton, while very scenic and I would
like to ride it, seems silly, it would be a longer trip than car, bus,
plane...it doesn't seem much of a revenue producer....

Now don't get me wrong...I think it is wrong that passenger service is
so skeletal, how most places are not served by rail, that short feeders
have been replaced with buses....that many ROWs are now hiking
trails...all that is a bit sad...and having a route from Binghamton to
Lake Placid, on such a mountain route is really cool, but it is kind of
like when there was that service on the Gila Bend that connected with
nothing...how can a train leave Binghamton, north and northeast and not
head towards New York, or at least Philly...

Oh well. I am bucking the trend ain't I? where Amtrak might die or
become just the corridor

Some day if the oil does run out this country will be in a lot of
trouble transportation-wise, won't it..

Just venting
