(rshsdepot) Chillicothe, MO
City to address depot restoration Monday
Constitution-Tribune
Chillicothe City Council members plan to discuss the future of the the old
Chicago, Burlington and Quincy depot in south-central Chillicothe when they
gather for their regular workshop meeting Monday evening.
The workshop, held prior to the council's 7 p.m. regular semimonthly
meeting, begins at 6 p.m. in the conference room at City Hall. The workshop,
as well as well as the regular meeting, is open to the public.
Michael Johns, representing the Chillicothe-Brunswick Rail Authority, which
owns the building and operates a rail shortline between Chillicothe and
Brunswick, is expected to attend Monday's workshop.
Discussion of this topic surfaced during the council's last workshop and
centered around a $30,000 commitment that a previous council had made toward
the renovation of the depot. That commitment was made when the offices of
Green Hills Regional Planning Commission, based in Trenton, were planned to
relocate to the depot building. A similar commitment was made by Chillicothe
Industrial Development Corporation. This money, combined with a sizeable
grant, would fund renovations of the depot. However, since that time, the
commission has decided not to relocate its offices in Chillicothe.
