       At one time (I don't know if it still being done), the tunnel was 
opened for occasional public tours.  You had to climb down a ladder put 
through a manhole in the middle of the street to get into the tunnel.  I took 
advantage of this opportunity and found the tunnel quite fascinating.  I have 
some pictures somewhere.
