The New York & New Haven (later merged with the Hartford & New Haven to
become the New York, New Haven & Hartford) ran cars to lower Manhattan by
steam and horse even after the completion of the original Grand Central Depot in
the 1870s. I'm not sure what year the service stopped.                                   Jim.
