Re: (rshsdepot) Pioneer Zephyr

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, many of Chicago's once great
railyards and stations are gone forever, including the B&O, Central,
Englewood and LaSalle. Dearborn (on Polk St.) is worth a look, but has
been coverted to a shopping arcade and its passenger shed and tracks are
no more. The rail scene from atop Roosevelt Road is not what is used to
be.

This isn't exactly 110% on target for this list, and it may be old news to
everyone except me, but...this weekend I happened to be in Chicago with my
family for a friend's wedding and took the opportunity to take my children
to the Chicago Museum of Industry and Science. To my surprise, the first
thing we bumped into, even before the museum's ticket counter, was a
stunningly restored streamliner. We looked around at the exhibition, and
then went aboard for a 20 minute presentation. I believe that I can safely
say that the Pioneer Zephyr exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Industry and
Science is not only the best train exhibit I have ever seen, but also
probably the single best and most effective museum exhibit of ANY kind! It
is truly a knock-your-socks-off, interactive exhibit that is stunning in
its
detail, quality, humor and execution.

Since it has apparently been around for about three years, I may be coming
late to the party, and perhaps everyone already knows about this, but I
was
simply blown away. I don't want to give away any of the surprises, but
suffice to say that it is a treat for all ages and you will leave smiling

Bravo to the museum!

(For those who are sure they will never get to Chicago, there is an online
counterpart to the exhibit at
http://www.msichicago.org/exhibit/zephyr/legacy/, but it is only a pale
shadow of what you will experience in person. Trust me.)
