CSX Transportation has leased the former Louisville & Nashville Railroad
Evarts, Kentucky depot to a non-profit group who wants to repair and restore
the station. The deal saw CSXT turn over the structure for a $1 per day
lease rate with the option for renewal after ten years.

The group reportedly has a nest egg of $50,000, that they plan to use to
repair the roof and stabilize the ailing structure. According to contractor
estimates, total refurbishing and refinishing of the station will take
nearly three times the amount of money the group currently has on hand. The
building is, for now, however in the hands of a group who will promote
restoration instead of demolition.
