Re: (rshsdepot) Pawtucket-Central Falls, RI
It was also the subject of an article in the NHRHTA Shoreliner a few years ago
(sorry, I don't remember which issue). It was a large and very busy station and
was the Providence area equivalent of Back Bay Station in Boston. In fact the
New Haven's Comet streamliner which ran back and forth between Boston and
Providence ("44 Miles In 44 Minutes" was the advertising slogan) included stops
at Back Bay and Pawtucket. At various times in the last few years it's been in
use as a flea market. Perhaps with some money from the city, state and Federal
governments it could be renovated as used as an additional stop on the MBTA
Boston to Providence service.

This is apparently quite a landmark building! It is featured as one of
only five Rhode Island stations covered in the "Great American Railroad
Stations" by Janet Greenstein Potter, and two pictures of the station appear
on page 109 of the book. It seems that the station is situated on Amtrak
Northeast Corridor, and trains still pass right under the building! I've
never noticed it, but will have to be on the lookout for it on my next trip
over this line.
