Siskiyou Semaphores Repainted & Removed
-From April 7th: Something very exciting is happening for all you semaphore
buffs. Tom Hunt, Central Oregon & Pacific Signal Maintainer, has begun
repainting the semaphores just off I-5 in Central Point in their original SP
black and white paint scheme. This will be the only set on the Siskiyou Line
that will be painted in this scheme.
Now for the bad news.Three more sets of semaphores and an H-2 will be
removed very soon. Two of the sets of semaphores will be MP 568.0, 568.1
and 569.2, 569.3 between Roseburg and Green. A new flowerpot signal will be
placed at 568.0, 568.1. This flowerpot will have an LED colorlight head
facing to the north for southbound movement (first LED colorlight on the
Siskiyou Line). This project is a direct result of the state working on an
I-5 bridge that crosses the tracks and requires removal of the poleline,
therefore we are installing electrocode units and colorlight signals. Please
note, during the third week of April, these semaphores were removed from
service.
Another set of semaphores is being removed in the Medford area and is the
first set south of South Stage Road crossing. The H-2 signal being removed
is the one at Bear Creek where the tracks and the buildings are built to
sway around the signal.
