Oakland train station bricks remain on sale

-From Staff Reports

OAKLAND -- The sale of bricks for Oakland's historic section of sidewalk
near the train station has been extended until Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for
anyone who wants to become a permanent part of Oakland's historic walkway.

The entire sidewalk eventually will go from the Garrett County Historical
Society museum on Second Street to the historic B&O train station.

Of the 1,460 bricks available, 1,318 have been sold, leaving only about 140
spaces for inscribed bricks.

Bricks cost between $25 and $35 depending on how much the donor wants
inscribed on them. Plans are to have the sidewalk completed this spring and
bricks must be ordered at least 10 weeks ahead.

Anyone interested in seeing how the bricks will look can tour the completed
portion of the sidewalk near the historical society, where several hundred
have already been installed.

Order forms are available at Town Hall, The Book Mark'et and Antique
Mezzanine or online at the Oakland Web page, www.oaklandmd.com.
