I can't give you any specific info on S. Hanson, but I have just completed 
major research of the Old Colony.  I suggest you look at the following:

Old Colony Railroad documents in the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center of the 
University of CT in Storrs, CT.  They have lots of Annual Reports and 
Valuation Maps.

George Pierce Baker's "The Formation of the New England Railroad Systems:  A 
Study of Railroad Combination in the Nineteenth Century" (1968).

Commission to Investigate and Study Transportation Service in Southeastern 
Mass.' "The Old Colony Railroad:  An Historically True Narrative of One of 
the Pioneer Railroad Systems in America" (1949).  The State Library has 
this.

Charles Fisher, "The Story of the Old Colony Railroad" (1919).

Hager & Handy "History of the Old Colony Railroad" (1893).

Alvin Harlow "Steelways of New England" (1946).
