Re: (rshsdepot) NYC 30th Street Station . . .

The Belt Line R.R. which loop around Manhattan, 59th Street on the north,
would be the duplication. as the belt Railroad it was always a horsecar,
though segments were electrified (such as 59th parts)....On my 1880 map it
says it "Starts at South Ferry, at foot of Whitehall Street"...There was a
West Side Line and an East Side line. West Side line went up West street &
10th Avenue, down 59th to 5th Avenue, the east side line meandered up the
East River side, past the ferry points and eventually 1st Avenue, but not
only went down 5th, but down 10th Avenue as well as far as West 54th before
returning. By the way this map shows both the "Passenger Station" at 30th
and the Hudson R.R. Depot down at St. John's///I have also pointed out
before that it shows a "New Haven Freight" depot on Centre Street, on the
west side of street between White and Franklin Streets, bordered by Elm
Street on the yard's west side....It was just north of The Tombs. (City
prison)

By the way the following RR ticket offices are shown (that is what I think
they are denoting):

Penn R.R.-Broadway and Park Row; Broadway and Spring St.; just above Canal
Street west a block from Broadway at Howard and Mercer; Broadway at
Bleecker;

Erie- at Castle Garden (at this point immigrants disembarked here..the Erie
had a transfer ferry to Pavonia); bottom of Broadway at Bowling Green;
Walker and Broadway; Spring and Mercer; on Court Street between Pierrepont
and Montague in Brooklyn

I have skipped the ferry depots...remember this is 1880 when there was an
aquarium up near Herald Square....What is the Erie site in New Jersey
opposite 32nd Street?
