ICC Docket Indexes at the Nat'l Archives Re: (rshsdepot) Jim Guthrie's comments

rshsdepot
I was there on Friday afternoon. Dave Pfieffer, the archivist resposible
for ICC et c., now has received several "shoe boxes" of index cards
arranged more or less by railroad and date from which you can abstract
the docket numbers. What he doesn't yet have are all of the dockets. I
went through something like 1500 cards to find a docket # and of course
the case that I needed is still downtown.

Document pulls are roughly every hour on the half [1:30, 2:30 et c] Allow
yourself at least an hour before the pull, especially if you are not
familiar with the indexes and have to see an archivist., and up to
another hour for the material to be delivered to the reading room. Dave
usually goes for lunch about noon and is gone an hour so figure that into
your time. Also first time users have to be photographed and go through a
quick screening which shouldn't take more than half an hour.
