Perth Amboy Ferry: (1867-1963) Tottenville to Perth Amboy (Staten Island =
Railway operated 1867-1948, Sunrise Ferries 1948-1963)
Is that one in any B&O history??
Bergen Point Ferry: (1876-1962) Port Richmond to Bayonne (Port =
Richmond&Bergen Point Ferry Co. 1876-1937, Electric Ferries 1937-45, =
Port Richmond Ferry Co. 1946-1948, Kill van Kull Ferry Company & others, =
1948-1962)
This business would have been cut into by the Bayonne Bridge (did you =
know this one is longer than the one in Sydney?)...we can presume that =
the SI/B&O never competed with any sort of Staten island to Bayonne =
route!!!
Howland Hook Ferry (1896-1961): Howland Hook to Elizabethport, NJ (NJ&SI =
Ferry Co. to 1932, Sunrise Ferries to '61)
Carteret Ferry (1916-1929): Linoleumville (don't you love that name?) to =
Carteret,NJ (Carteret Ferry Co. )
Those were the Staten Island to New Jersey ferries.
Here are others that used Whitehall Street in Manhattan:
Governor's Island Ferry (1870-recently) Whitehall Street to Governor's =
Island (U.S.Army to 1961, U.S. Coast Guard after that)
=20
Ellis Island Ferry (1892-1954) Whitehall Street to Ellis Island-or =
should I say "from"? (U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service)
South Ferry (1836-1933) Whitehall Street to Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn =
(Union Ferry Company 1856-1922, City of NY 1922-42) The dates are =
possible misprints in the Ferries book..Union Ferry Company was the =
Fulton Ferry company from 1814, they ran other ferries mostly starting =
in the '50s....this was probably the ferry that the LIRR used at =
Atlantic Avenue to 1861
Hamilton Ferry (1856-1942) Whitehall Street to Hamilton Avenue (Union =
Ferry Company to 1922, the city to '42) Hamilton Street is near Bay =
Ridge I think.
South Brooklyn Ferry (1887-1938) Whitehall Street to 39th Street (NY & =
South Brooklyn Ferry & Transportation Company 1887-1906, City of NY to =
1938) 39th Street was where the South Brooklyn RR went,-this ferry must =
have been part of same company as South Brooklyn RR, as 1906 seems the =
date that that line went to BRT...anyone know? Was there passenger rail =
service to the ferry until 1906?..I don't have this info...Good history =
of South Brooklyn RR is hard to find..
Williamsburg Express Ferry (1988) Whitehall Street to Kent Avenue (city =
of NY) This one is a mystery to me.
OK, now at Broadway Ferry in Brooklyn, where did those ferries go in =
Manhattan? Where would LIRR begin their journey to the Rockaways via the =
Broadway El, Jamaica El, Chestnut Street flying junction?
Broadway Ferry (AKA Roosevelt Street Ferry) (1836-1909, 1911-1918) =
Roosevelt St. to Broadway, Williamsburg (Williamsburg Ferries 1836-1909, =
Brooklyn and Manhattan Ferry 1911-18) Do we see the effect of the =
rerouting of most traffic over the bridge in 1908?
Broadway Ferry (AKA Division Ferry) (1851-1909, 1921-1931) Grand =
Street, NY to Broadway,Williamsburg ((Williamsburg Ferries t0 1909, the =
city the second go round)
Broadway-23rd Street Ferry (1885-1909, 1911-1918) East 23rd Street to =
Broadway, Williamsburg (Williamsburg ferries to 1909, Bklyn & Manhattan =
Ferry to 1918)
That's ferry much it,=20
