(LVRR) Freeville NY 1960-1977
Anyone have a source for general photos of Freeville when the LV was still
in place, just showing looking away from the frieght station?
I just banged out a cardboard mock-up of the depot from some old plans and
it looks like a fairly easy scratchbuild. The plans give me a trackplan and
layout, I just wondered what the rest of the area looked like so I can put
this on a diorama of some sort.
I will probably try and get a look at the area where it was this weekend
when I go down to the Ithaca train show, but it's been a good 30 years so I
figure some things have changed a bit. I know from a previous drive past
the ROW is still pretty evident. The water tank base shown in these plans
may even still be there, I can't remember now.
If anyone is interested, the plans are in the 2/63 Model Railroader.
They're half size for HO, if anyone wants a set that is copied to full HO
and laid out on 8x11 sheets I could probably make something up for you for a
couple bucks to cover the cost and the mailing. It looks to be bascially
the standard station used on the EC&N (DeRuyter is similar) but bent in the
middle to match the diamond, and the back wall is one wall instead of having
a matching bend. I think the dimensions from the drawings could be adapted
to build any of the other stations along the line that used the same
blueprint.
This came out so well and so easy I need to get back out the plans for Sayre
and Geneva and bang out some mock-ups of those. I figure the cardstock can
be adjusted as needed, then I can cut them apart and use them as templates
to make them out of plastic.
