(LVRR) UP Caboose in Sayre
Hey, I know I asked about this a ways back but I can't find the e-mails with
the answer in it, I think I deleted it the last time I cleaned out my inbox.
I picked up a couple of slides a while back with 8-75 process dates showing
a LV switcher with a UP caboose in front of the station in Sayre.
The question was, why/how did this caboose end up in Sayre? I know they
used to pool cabooses just like locomotives, but anyone know what train it
might have come in on? An Apollo would make sense, the car could have come
over on the N&W; I suppose it could have gotten east on Chessie too but it
doesn't make as much sense. I'd assume whatever train it was it had to at
least change power at Sayre, if not terminate there.
As to why - perhaps they didn't have a serviced caboose ready at Buffalo?
Or could it have been an experiment in pooling cabooses as well as power to
save some time? I don't remember ever reading that they pooled the
cabooses on these trains, just the power, but that doesn't mean it didn't
happen.
I loaned the slide out to someone who may use it in print, so I thought it
would be good if I could nail down some caption info for him.
Thanks
Bill K.
