(LVRR) Ithaca NY assignments
In case anyone is curious I have some old fueling bills from Ithaca yard,
scattered over from 1970 through 1976.
During that time two or three pups were assigned there, and Mobil (later
Agway looks like) would refuel them and bill once a month.
#252 is on every single one that shows unit numbers (some show for track
cars and other things having maintenance done). #255 is with it on the
older ones, #256 is with it after about 1974 though to the end - the last
bill I have is for March 1, 1976. So it looks like unless it needed major
work it stayed in Ithaca for at least 6 years. The only other units I see
showing were 258 (once) and 274 (paired with 252 for one month and in trios
for a couple months). 252-255-256 also worked as a group a few times.
I got these about 10 years ago off the floor of the '67 Ithaca yard office,
when it still stood and was left open.. about had to sift them out of a
pile of trash on the floor there that had a batch of mid-80s Conrail stuff
mixed into it, so I photocopied them for my file and the real ones are in a
box in the basement. They must have been forgotten in a desk there,
although vandals had destroyed the two desks in there (looked like they'd
been nice ones, good heavy wood) and the pieces were scattered around.
Always meant to go down with a pickup and swipe a set of lockers, too, but I
never did. Conrail tore it down just before NS took over down there.
