(LVRR) LV 95135/RI 17605, IA?

Hi,

Steel, cupola, LV 95135 caboose is a bit of a mystery ship. It went to the RI as 1 of a group of 6 cabooses in 1972. In a 1992 article in "The Rock Island Digest, Vol. 9", the disposition of this car is said to be to CRANDIC as their #729/729-X, which reportedly went to Urbana, IA, as part of a diner.

There is, however, a major problem with the above disposition information. Crandic #729 was an ex-Reading car. I think that if the LV/RI caboose went to Crandic, it was never painted or lettered for that road and is *not* the car that went to Urbana, IA. It appears that RDG 92729/CIC/CRIC 729 went to Urbana and is likely the car now off Hunt Rd., northwest of Cedar Rapids, IA. There is no caboose or Trax Diner in Urbana, a bank sits on that site now.

Does anyone have a photo of a LV caboose painted, lettered, &/or numbered as Crandic? Or a photo of the Trax Diner car in Urbana or off Hunt Rd.?

For those who have James T. Bradley's, 1991, "Cabooses of North America, Vol. II", there is a shot of a LV caboose on page 50 and shots of the 2 ex-RDG Crandic crummies on the opposite page. Now that's convenience!

OK, let's get those emails and jpegs coming, Roger

P.S. If anyone is on a RI List (RITS?), please forward this to that list.
