RE: (LVRR) Locomotive switch at NK Tower

Hi Richard:

I grew up two city blocks from NK tower. I knew the day tower operator and
occasionally spent summer afternoons up there. I even got to set the
interlocking for a power change once.

Working from from memory, I don't have a track chart handy, the catenary
terminated at the signal bridge several hundred yards north (east) of NK.
The GG1 would uncouple and pull forward into a siding. Meanwhile the LV
PA(s) or RS3, coming from Oak Island, would move down the westbound main
line to the bridge over Meeker Ave. The towerman would through the
interlocking to allow the diesel(s) to back down to the waiting train. When
given the semaphore signal the LV train would proceed. After the train
passed the switch, the towerman would set the interlocking to allow the GG1
to head back home.

Subject: (LVRR) Locomotive switch at NK Tower

Hi,

I'm new to this group and have a question.

Does anyone know the procedure used to switch from the PRR mainline's
electric locomotives to the LVRR's steam power at NK Tower in Newark, NJ
for LVRR passenger trains? I know the overhead wires extended for a
distance from the PRR mainline out toward NK Tower.

Thanks.
Richard
