"20211105_170109.jpg" - image/jpeg, 4032x1908 (24bit)

I had a mini-railfan vacation over the weekend in Cresson, PA at the Station Inn. Of interest to this group is what I found along the Juniata Shops turntable in Altoona.... We have seen that the DL&W "Heritage Unit" was seen in a deadline alongside the shop with a lot of oil spewed all over it - never a good sign!

Happily, it appears the unit had a blown turbocharger and is finally getting repaired inside the shops. In the meantime, its center hood and radiator compartments were removed and placed on a flatcar, to be put back when the repairs are complete. The hood is VERY grimy and has some paint peels and hopefully will be cleaned (and maybe touched up?)

But the thing that REALLY surprised me is what the hood is sitting on... EL 7552! (look closely behind the railings and platform) Yes, this is a former Erie 75' flat that the EL later stretched to 85'... and it eventually ended up in service at Juniata moving large parts around the complex. When I last saw it ~3 years ago, it still wore its EL Roman-typeface lettering from the early 1960s (yes, I have photos of that as well). But the surprise here is that it looks like the shop gave it a brand new black paint job (I wonder if it had repairs done to it?), with yellow conspicuity stripes and they restored all the lettering that was on it before the new coat of paint (puzzling that didn't change the reporting marks to NS, but I'm not complaining!). Alas, this is the best view I could get of it because of that platform directly in front of it. Hope you enjoy!
