There were mail contracts across the country. Under a 1000 miles trains could be faster than flying. As GM got the government to pull the mail off trains. One car line being taken off could kill more than one train. There were regular mail cars Hoboken to Omaha, Nebraska on the Lake Cities. A evening 7P departure . The equipment was either EL or Milwaukee Cars. Same for other car lines, since the cars were exchanged and rented from other railroads in a POOL service any car could and did show up. Putting the mail on trucks of the Omaha run. Killed the Milwaukee Road and the Erie passenger services. It was a major source of income for the railroad. NYC-CNJ they all had these arrangements. I found this great video on the Lackawanna a few days ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmoHuEVDCYE

At the 5:01 time stamp, there is what looks like a bunch of NYC head-end
cars, with a few NYC passenger cars near the end. I am not 100% sure on the
passenger cars.

Does anyone have any info about this train? How often were NYC cars on DL&W
or EL trains?
