"Boonton-main-st.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1800x1085 (24bit)

For many years, I have been hunting for what ever happened to the Boonton station platform-end sign (the one that hunt from the canopy at the west end of the station). I would have loved to acquire it considering how the station area was sort of my second home growing up. Alas, looking at photos over the years, the sign started to become very faded by the early 1970s, and by 1975 (when the station was converted into a shopping mall) it was gone entirely. At this point, I just made the assumption that it a) went into the trash bin, and/or b) was far too faded to be correctly restored.
Fast-forward to today. David Rush, a former DL&W sign painter, has been making gorgeous reproduction DL&W signs (thanks to Joshua K. Blay for inspiring me with his Homer, NY sign that he had made by David). After coming up with the correct artwork for the lettering, and doing some calculations of the sign dimensions, I commission David to make me a reproduction.
Happily, the results exceeded my wildest expectations. I've had it for about two weeks, but I wanted to wait until I was able to get it back to "home turf" before I debuted it. Yesterday was the annual Boonton Fireman's Parade, which our family attends every year, so what better time?
Attached are a few photos.... Yes, I wore my DL&W SD70ACe shirt for this, too! In the first photo, I'm trying to hold the sign up to a relatively similar position at the Boonton Station, demonstrating where it originally would have been. Alas, I'm still a little too short at 6'1" to get it to the right height, but you get the idea. The second photo is in front of the Main St. overpass at the "current" NJT station. And the third photo is a comparison of the sign with the current NJT "modern" style sign. Hmm.... I think I like the DL&W style better! :)

- Paul, one happy camper :)
