I took this shot I believe back in 2001,In Washington MO.I may have sent it
to the list earlier, I know I sent it to Geo Elwood's site. One of the
things I remember is these two units were flying, probably 70mph, This was
back in my Pentax 35mm days and I was wondering if I had the shutter speed
set fast enough to stop it, I had an old K1000, standard shift everything.
One of the guys at my Model RR Club was a UP engineer and he said he would
catch this unit every so often for about a 6 month period of time on his KC
to St Louis Turn. He said that it was a runner and rode like a Pullman car
on UP's good track. By the time of this picture it was a 16 cylinder SD40
clone, but he said that didn't stop it from being a puller and a runner. I
remember years later seeing it along with a bunch of other rebuilds going
east in the same spot to E. St Louis to be salvaged and cut up. So I know
it's long gone. Sam Weibel.
