This is by far, without a doubt, the type of postings I absolutely hate to
make.
Got word via an email this morning that Bill Morgan 3rd has passed away. In
the mid 1950s THE LACKAWANNA produced a nice house organ, entitled exactly
that. THE LACKAWANNA. It stopped around 1957, but there are many great
articles in the issues produced. One has a nice two page article about Bill
and his dad. It talks about Bill being the youngest conductor on the
Lackawanna, and as others have mentioned to me, possibly in the entire
country, at 21 years old. Bill was born on 3-12-35. He hired out on 6-10-53
and was promoted on 7-5-56. I may be wrong, but I mention this article, and
the magazine, because it is my feeling that Bill was the last living
individual to be pictured in any of the issues.
When he retired from NJT he was No1 on the roster. A nice guy that you
could say, had done it all. He was part of "What once was and will never be
again." Sorry for your passing Bill. BTW. Engineer Archie Speer seen with
Bill on the second page, was the engineer killed when the runaway engines
from Port Morris hit the west bound MU train under the Salem St Bridge in
Dover around 1964ish
