Subject: Lackawanna Exhibit Trains in the 1930s
EXIF Image Description: image description
"dlw_1631_cortland_display_train.jpg" - image/jpeg, 4427x2506 (256c)

I just ran across an image of a Lackawanna display train in Homer (Syracuse Branch) courtesy of the CNY NRHS chapter and it has me wondering about display trains.

I have the following dates for exhibit trains on the Syracuse Branch:

11
13
1934
DL&W
Cortland
New engine and cars on display
11
16
1934
DL&W
Cortland
Pocono engine on display, 5,271 visit
4
10
1935
DL&W
Marathon, Cortland, Homer
Exhibition train on display
4
25
1935
DL&W
Cortland
Exhibition train on display

Something seems to be out of joint, or perhaps the different days were a NB and SB movement? Anybody have a display schedule or a roster for either or both?

In Taber's book 20th Century Volume II there is a 1938 display train in Hoboken. Engine 1631 lead five passenger cars along with a diesel switcher, four freight cars, and a caboose. Perhaps my source information on the ones from 1934 and 1935 was incorrect? Or they're some other displays and not company equipment?

Attached is a view in Cortland (NB) and one in Homer; the consist of each appear to match the 1938 train depicted in the book. The one in Cortland is headed north but the one in Homer I'm not sure- it looks SB to me. I'm afraid I don't know the dates/photographers of either but both consists would match the 1938 train.

I tried searching the list archive but didn't find much perhaps I'm not using the right keywords.

Thanks for any enlightenment!

Best,

Joshua
