Hi,

The Center for Railroad Photography & Art has acquired the late Donald
Furler collection of black and white negatives. In case you are not
familiar with Don's work, he was a superb photographer using a 5x7 Speed
Graphic camera and much of his subject matter was the DL&W and Erie in the
heyday of steam. You can look at his collections on the Center's site. The
Center is also publishing a book of his work in the fall.

He took numerous photographs around Port Morris and this one just east of
the Port Morris tower of an eastbound train approaching the Hopatcong
station. On the left of the photograph is a track rising up off the
mainline grade which apparently was a spur to a freight house at Hopatcong
which must have been located to the east of Landing Road. I have not seen
any published photographs of the freight station, though there are plans for
it in the original 1918 set of Hopatcong station plans. The plans show a
structure 21 x 36 feet including an office.

Does anyone have any information, or better yet a photograph of this freight
station?

Thanks.
