"ErieLogo.jpg" - image/jpeg, 174x168 (24bit)

Speaking of memories and the Erie diamond, I attached a version of the Erie
Diamond logo as I remember it painted on the sides of a former Erie truck my
uncle owned. I could never figure out why they painted it that way, but the
explanation behind the design of the logo below might explain it. Has anyone
else ever seen the Erie Logo painted that way?

My uncle lived with my great-grandfather and great-grandmother in Moscow
right across Rt. 611 (I think it's Rt. 435 now) in plain sight of the DL&W.
I always loved to visit them, because I got to watch E-L trains going by
when visiting them and their dog, my favorite of all time, a German shepherd
named Shadow.

I remember being shocked when in 1973, at the age of 14, my uncle asked me
if I wanted to test drive his old 1956 Erie truck. What a thrill! The first
vehicle I would drive in my life would be a railroad truck! How cool was
that? Unfortunately, it was a standard, and I never could let the clutch go
without it stalling...

See how wonderful is a better memory? Thanks, Terry.

Actually there is a reference to the person who designed the Erie's diamond
logo in the 1890's. It's in one of the books I have on the Erie & will
have to dig further to find it. The article stated that ball inside the
diamond signified the sun which never set on the 4 corners of earth
(represented by the 4 corners of the diamond) to which the goods Erie
carried were delivered.
