Subject: South Dayton, NY station on Buffalo and Southwestern branch
"SouthDaytonNYOldplan150.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1554x1224 (24bit)

Dear List,
I have been attempting to gather historical information related to the South Dayton station on Erie’s Buffalo and Southwestern branch in preparation for building an HO scale model. I have found photos and ground plans of two different buildings dated 1909 and 1911.

1. When was the building in the 1909 photos built?
2. The building in the 1909 photos seems to be actively in business and in good condition. Why was it replaced?
3. When was the building in the 1911 photos built?
4. On 4 of the photos I have drawn a yellow caret. There seems to be a set of rails perpendicular to the main line that crosses the concrete platform. There also seems to be a moveable loading dock resting on these rails. How was this used?
5. With regard to the new station, would the wood shingles on the upper portion of the station walls have been left unfinished to naturally weather or would they have been painted? If painted, what color? Colors of other exterior surfaces?
6. Aside from benches in the waiting rooms and a couple of desks in the office, what other furniture/equipment would have been inside the station?
7. There are some milk cans on the concrete platform on the track side of the station. Would full cans be moved north to a destination in Buffalo or would they have been moved south the Erie main line for movement to NYC?

The photos of both stations were primarily were found on https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~sponholz/genealogy/erie.html, two were eBay post cards and one was from Steamtown.

In order to group the photos, I have attached the older station photos here. A second message will have the newer station photos. A pdf of a 1913 Sanborn Fire Insurance map will be included as well.
