OK, I forgot the image in jpg form has to be

so maybe THIS time, you'll be able to see it.

Gary's photo of the pilings is useful, but doesn't
really convey how VERY far out into the Hudson the
pier extends. The attached snip of a Google Earth
view, including the 6,300 foot dimension from the
tip of the pier to Irvington across the river give
a better idea of just how long a submarine cable
had to be to establish the telegraphic connection
to NYC.
