Classification of Engines; Passenger Equipment; Marine Equipment

Sitting here in the twenty-first century, I tend to think of the Lackawanna
as a railroad full of 4-8-4's and 4-8-2's and other large power. It is
interesting to note that of the 759 locomotives on the roster in 1920, only
105 have trailing trucks. These, of course, are the newest engines, 53
Pacitics and 52 Mikados. The roster will change dramatically in the next
decade.

Unfortunately, the Passenger Equipment List is a bare bones recitation of
car types and their allocation by division, which is probably more an
accounting function than actual equipment distribution. After all, the M&E
would have had more than 85 coaches, and what would the Scranton Division
do with 361?

Apparently, this particular list was once in the hands of someone familiar
with the Marine Equipment, since pages 91, 92 and 93 have notes penciled in
regarding the numbering of scows and grain boats.
