Pat,

I have now been able to verify that Photos C0586-C0589, taken 2 10 1910, were taken at Kingston, PA, and that the mining operation shown is East Boston Colliery, owned by the East Boston Coal Company.

C0586 looks toward the DL&W Bloomsburg Branch and, beyond, the settled part of what was then Dorranceton Borough, now part of Kingston.

Photos C0585 and C0587- C0589 look northwest. The houses atop the hill in the distance are on what is now Grove Street, Pringle, PA.

Photo C2646, taken 5 24 1915, looks northeast along the ROW at Division Street (the demarcation between Kingston and Dorranceton) looking northeast, and shows the spur going off to the north that went to the colliery. Division Street crossing was discussed back in March 2008, when you shared a 1951 request Kingston Borough made of the DL&W to install a crossing gate or warning lights. The issue was safety of employees coming and going to General Cigar Company, which was located on Division Street in that area to the left in C2646. Our neighbor worked there at that time, rolling cigars, and walked to work. The crossing gate or other protection was never installed. In the 1950s and later, Lehigh Valley served industries in that area- probably including General Cigar. Hope this helps. Bill Culverhouse
