Subject: Youngstown Dispatcher's Office Photo (1) June, 1969
"Larsick_1st_Sub_June_1969_001.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1191x797 (24bit)

Here's what the Mahoning Division's First Sub CTC machine looked like for
Coles (left) Hubbard (middle) and Himrod Jct (right) with the EB Telephone Train
Order control knob at the extreme right.

There is an eastbound on the approach to Himrod and the switches at Hubbard
and Coles are lined reverse and the signals at Himrod, Hubbard and Coles are
lined east.

The gray box at the upper left was the radio/telephone interconnect so the
DY could use the radio out on the line (I forget where the outlying transmitter
was, but it was not very successful.)

The black box with the white and orange buttons was the ringer selector for
the dispatcher's line. For instance if the dispatcher wanted to contact
Deforest he would select 6-6-A, for SN Jct. 7-4-A, etc.

The dispatcher on duty is the late Eugene E Larsick (EEL). To Gene's right
(black box) is the dispatcher's phone line selector box. It allowed him to
select the DS line (628) and to tie the 2nd sub line (610) into it. He could
also access the message lines (629 & 611) and the 3rd-4th Sub line (603) as
well as the Youngstown Yard line and the P&LE Dispatcher's line. Directly
behind Gene's head, out of view is the 'hot line" to Marion CTD and Marion Disp.

Messages for special moves, hi&wide shipments, etc are clipped to the CTC
board with a magnet clip. Above that is a card with passenger train times for
the division and the previous day's train sheet is on top of the machine,
along with the Train Order Book. Various forms and supplies are on the shelves.
to Gene's right is the 2nd Sub Desk which had a blank cabinet because there
was no CTC machine for that job in Youngstown. This photo was taken in the
middle of the night in June of 1969 and Gene was working a combined 1st and
2nd Sub job.
