I believe Newark Tower in this photo (for which I have no photo credit) was built into the brick freight house building in photo 2/3. I think it was replaced in 1953 by the (still existing) brick structure at track level, which also controlled Kearny, Harrison and would have eventually controlled Roseville Ave is funds had existed.

I'm attaching two images of the former DL&W freight yard on the east side
of Broad Street in Newark. The images were taken in March 1963 after the
yard was taken out of service. I have seen NPS images Pat posted of the
ramp on the Harrison side of the Passaic River bridge that led to the lower
level crossing and the yard. Not much else. Does anyone have photos of the
yard when it was still in service?

Presumably this yard was located on the original grade that was at ground
level from the Passaic River bridge into Newark, as constructed in 1854 by
the New Jersey Railroad. The route and bridge became Morris & Essex's about
ten years later. The double-deck bridge and the new, elevated alignment
through Newark went into service in 1903 but the portion of the old route
east of Broad Street was maintained for freight service.
