Re: (erielack) Lackawanna car shops exposed

Records at Steamtown show both freight and passenger cars being constructed
at E. Dover. Don't think it was sold, just converted to a frog and
switch factory by the Lackawanna.

One of the oldest Lackawanna buildings extant is apparently getting a new
lease on life. Jan Packaging in Dover, NJ has removed the two additions
that used to hide the face of Lackawanna's old Dover Car Shops building, and
they appear to be restoring it. Attached are some then and now photos. The
building in these photos was opened in 1881, the original structure burned
in 1880. After a larger car and locomotive shop was built in Kingsland ca.
1905, the Dover Car Shops were sold to become Dover Frog & Switch. The
building has survived a lot. The scene in the contemporary photo can be seen
from a passing trains on NJTransit.
